Apple's introduction of the Force Touch technology could help the company regain its hallmark of simplicity in handling its products.
A new report from 9to5Mac provided details of specific uses for the Force Touch technology widely reported to be included with the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Force Touch first appeared on the Apple Watch and was designed to give the user a wider array of commands to compensate for a smaller screen.
But the iPhone has a considerably larger screen, so that version of Force Touch will be somewhat different. For example, an unnamed source told 9to5Mac users will be able to hold their finger down on a destination in the Maps application to skip a couple steps and additional clicks.
As Forbes noted, Force Touch comes at an opportune time for Apple because advances in their mobile operating system, iOS, have been making it less user-friendly overall. Writing for Forbes, Jay McGregor pointed out that this is a problem for Android's mobile operating system as well.
Force Touch will also play a role in Apple Music. Instead of clicking that small icon with the three dots, users will be able to hold their finger down on a given track to bring up the most oft-used commands, such as making the song, album, or playlist available for offline playback.
