The Kentucky Wildcats (1) appear to be on their way once again to gathering all 65 first-place votes, but for at least one more week, the Virginia Cavaliers (2) are taking at least one first-place votes.

Now in week 12 of the AP poll Kentucky has not left the top spot since being named the preseason number-one and Virginia has stuck around now for three weeks. After opening their SEC schedule with three total overtimes against Ole Miss and Texas A&M, Kentucky has returned to form against Missouri, Alabama, Vanderbilt and South Carolina.

Gonzaga (3) held onto their place in the top 25 after wins over Saint Mary's and Pacific. Wisconsin (5) and Arizona (6) each moved up one place while Notre Dame (8) and Louisville (10) stayed put and Villanova (7) dropped three placed after losing to Georgetown (21).

The story of the week was Duke's (4) 77-68 win over St. John's, the 1,000th in Mike Krzyzewski's coaching career. The Blue Devils only moved up one place, but they can rise further with two key ACC road games scheduled against Virginia and Notre Dame.

Duke had about six days off after their game against Pitt last Monday, which Krzyzewski said may have made his team "soft" against the Johnnies early on. Duke cannot afford to play soft against Virginia and Notre Dame, but they will not have the same kind of layoff from game to game.

Only three teams moved more than three places, as Oklahoma (5) dropped five after losing to Kansas and Baylor (20) and Iowa State (15) fell six after losing to Texas Tech. Georgetown had the highest jump, moving up five after beating Villanova and Marquette.

Dayton, Seton Hall and Iowa fell off the Top 25 and Georgetown, Miami (23) and Butler (25) entered.
