With the fall quickly approaching, Apple will be expected to introduce and release its latest iPhone, but when exactly is still unclear.

For the last two years in a row, Apple has released its new iPhone in mid-Sept. and several reports this summer are pointing to a similar timeframe. Most recently, Re/Code reported Apple will unveil the iPhone 6 on Sept. 9, meaning the release will follow shortly after.

Come autumn, Apple also tends to release its new iOS, their mobile operating system, and OSX, their desktop operating system. Reports have long pointed to Apple releasing two versions of the iPhone 6, one with 4.7-inch display and one with a 5.5-inch display.

However, many reports have conflicted on whether they will be released simultaneously or separately. One possibility is that the smaller handset would come out in mid-Sept. and the larger one weeks (or months) later.

While Apple has not commented on the production of their new iPhone, past reports have stated the company is having trouble developing a battery for a handset far larger display than they have ever attempted.

The Wall Street Journal backed up Re/Code's report, citing an unnamed source "familiar with the matter" who said the introduction event will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9. Apple's unveiling events tend to fall on Tuesdays while the releases typically fall on a Friday, making Sept. 19 a strong possibility for the iPhone 6.

Both the iPhone 5 and 5S/5C were released on the third Friday in Sept., which is exactly what Sept. 19 of this year is.

9to5Mac reported the "mid-Sept. keynote" address will also unveil iOS 8's final specifications as well as introduce the new iPhone. The website noted the address will feature the 4.7-inch handset, while Apple has yet to make a decision on the 5.5-inch version.
