A new report has thrown a potential curveball to the rumored release date for the iPhone 6, which could now hit shelves a week later.

GforGames.com cited a report from China's national media that the iPhone 6 will hit shelves Sept. 25 and be revealed Sept. 15, though the source indicated it was a Chinese release date. The open-endedness led GforGames.com to speculate that the previous rumors could hold true and the iPhone 6 will come out Sept. 19.

The unnamed source said China will be one of the first countries to get Apple's newest smartphone, which is to be dubbed the "iPhone Air." It is not clear if both the 4.7- and 5.5-inch models will both get the "Air" instead of the "6." The report indicated that the 5.5-inch "phablet" (phone + tablet) will be called the iPhone Air for its screen size and thin frame.

GforGames.com reported the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 be offered with 32GB of storage and will cost $850 and the 16GB 5.5-inch model will be $965. A 32GB version of the larger iPhone 6 could potentially exceed $1,000 retail.

AppleInsider.com previously learned of a report from Apfelpage.de that indicated Apple informed a German supplier that the iPhone 6 will be released Sept. 19. Since the 19th falls on a Friday, several other reports have pointed to the same day, as it also tracks with the time of year Apple has released recent iPhone models.

One thing all rumors seem to point to are the size of the two versions of the iPhone 6. GforGames.com obtained a leaked image earlier this week of the 4.7- and 5.5-inch models next to each other and compared to the iPhone 5S.

Based on several leaked images and reports, the iPhone 6 will also have a curved display made from the ultra-tough and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The frame is also expected to be thinner and feature rounded edges, unlike the boxy ones on the previous models.
