iPhone 6 Release Date Rumors: Apple to Mass Produce Both 4.7- and 5.5-Inch Models Next Month, Will they Be Released Simultaneously?
ByDespite what various reports have indicated to this point, Apple may be preparing to release their two different-sized iPhone 6 models side by side.
Citing unnamed sources, Bloomberg News reported Apple is going to begin mass production of the iPhone 6, both the 4.7- and 5.5-inch versions next month. All previous reports have indicated the larger "phablet" was taking longer than expected and would hit shelves at least a month after the smaller one debuted.
If Apple stays true to form, they will release a new iPhone, which is only presumed to be called the iPhone 6, in mid-to-late September alongside the new mobile operating system. Also true to form, Apple will not give any indication as to what their actual plans are, which are known to change right up to the day their products ship.
The current iPhone on the market, the 5S/5C, is only four inches. If the iPhone 6 really does get two different size models, with the smaller one being 4.7 inches, it will be the first time Apple increased the size of its smartphone since making the iPhone 5 four inches. Apple is apparently giving into the "phablet" (phone + tablet) trend, set by HTC and Samsung, who have five-inch smartphones on the market now.
Bloomberg News' sources also said the iPhone 6 will be "rounder and thinner" than past models. The sources did say that the larger version is not without its lingering wrinkles, meaning Apple will have to wait to produce more units. Even with a limited release at first, this is among the first reports to indicate both iPhone 6 models will be released simultaneously.
According to Reuters, Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News reported Hon Hai Precision Industry has undertaken its largest hiring spree ever in China to produce the iPhone 6. The manufacturer has reportedly hired more than 100,000 people to produce the smartphone expected to be in high demand. Expectedly, Hon Hai did not comment on the report.
The latest image leak, this time from an eBay user, are supporting the report from Bloomberg News, displaying a slim iPhone dummy with noticeably rounder edges, the Mirror reported. The leaker of the image also claims the iPhone 6 will have a screen resolution of 1334x750 and an A8 processing chip.
