Apple is reportedly looking to seize an opportunity to charge an extra $100 for the iPhone 6.

According to a report from Business Insider, Apple is talking to carriers about a $100 price hike for the impending release of the iPhone 6. Apple sees its next smartphone as the only true "game changer" being released this year and wants customers to pay extra for it.

Unsurprisingly, the carriers have refused thus far, but Peter Misek, an analyst at Jeffries, said they might be willing to bend after some time.

"Our checks indicate Apple has started negotiating with carriers on a $100 iPhone 6 price increase," Misek told Business Insider. "The initial response has been no, but there seems to be an admission that there is no other game-changing device this year."

With a two-year contract the iPhone 5S, Apple's most current smartphone, goes for $199 and the 5C, the cost-effective alternate, goes for $99. This caused the iPhone 5, the previous model, to bump down to $99 with a two-year contract and the iPhone 4S to become free with a two-year contract.

If the iPhone 6 was $299, it is unclear if that would affect the prices of the previous models. If getting the newest one is already proving to be a struggle for Apple, it is unlikely carriers will hike prices across the board. Plus, Apple is reportedly going to once again release a second iPhone at a lower cost.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from KGI Securities with a nose for Apple rumors, told Apple Insider the tech giant is planning to release its high-end smartphone with a 5.5-inch screen. The low-end model will have a 4.7-inch screen, the size of the iPhone 5S/5C.

Kuo also said both devices will come with the next-gen A8 chip, whereas Apple previously gave the 5C a lesser processing chip to the 5S.

9to5Mac obtained a photo that appears to support Kuo's claim. Posted without context on a Weibo message board in China, someone appears to be holding an iPhone 6 panel next to the iPhone 5S, demonstrating the former's larger screen size.

Every year as Apple gets nearer to unveiling their latest and greatest devices, rumors surface. Apple is expected to reveal he iPhone 6, its low-cost companion, iOS 8 and other new gadgets and software this June at their Worldwide Developers Conference.
