Apple will start producing the iPhone 6 in a matter of weeks after unnamed sources said Taiwan's Pegatron Corp. will begin in the second quarter.

According to a Commercial Times report, translated by Reuters, sources who wished to remain nameless said Pegatron is opening a new facility and recruiting workers. Without any specifics, the sources told the newspaper production is to begin in Q2, which lasts through March.

This would indicate that production of the iPhone 6 is to begin within weeks, as the second quarter is set to get underway Monday. The sources did not specify when the new iPhone will hit stores.

Pegatron's new facility will reportedly be in Kunshan, a city outside Shanghai in China. The sources did not say how many units will be produced or how many workers will be recruited to build them.

The newspaper's sources also said assembling company Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. will be contracted as another primary manufacturer of the iPhone 6.

Neither Apple, Hon Hai nor Pegatron commented on the report, but Pegatron's shares in the Taiwan market climbed 1.26 percent.

As is tradition for Apple, details of the impending device have been kept quiet. Apple has not even confirmed the named of their next smartphone will be the iPhone 6.

Also a tradition, Apple tends to announce their latest iPhone and other new devices in late summer to set them up for releases in the fall. Apple is rumored to be mulling an earlier release to shake things up, as its biggest competitor, Samsung, has already announced its Galaxy S5.

It stands to reason that the next iPhone will in fact be the 6. The iPhone 4S was the first time Apple released a smartphone with anything more than a single digit. Then, last year was the first time Apple released more than one iPhone at once.

This year is expected to be no different, with one high-end model and another plastic one, like the iPhone 5C being listed at a lower price. The iPhone 6 is also expected to expand the smartphone's screen size once again.
