iPhone 6 Rumor Roundup: Potential Summer Release Date and a Larger Screen That May Be Curved
ByApple is not expected to announce its next iPhone any time soon, but rumors of a larger (and possibly curved) screen are heating up with one type of concept image looking convincingly enough like a leak.
According to the Washington Post, a graphic designed named Sam Beckett believes the next iPhone will fall in line with the latest iPad. While many believe the upcoming smartphone will be the "iPhone 6," Beckett suggests it will be named the "iPhone Air."
His design has the phone at a 4.7" display with a 1920x1080 resolution, specs that Reuters previously reported Apple to be considering. Beckett's concept also includes a "sapphire crystal display with a reduced bezel frame," due to Apple's acquisition of a sapphire factory in Ariz.
"They constantly change product specifications almost to the final moment, so you're not really sure whether this is the final prototype," a source who wished to remain anonymous told Reuters.
Other hardware updates in Beckett's concept include a 10-megapixel camera, a welcome upgrade as the iPhone's camera has not gone above eight megapixels since the iPhone 4S.
As for the release, Apple released two iPhones at once for the first time ever in 2013 and could realistically do it again. With the rising prices for high-end smartphones, Apple is getting beat by competitors like Samsung who offer devices at a lower cost. There is no reason to doubt Apple will at least consider releasing to iPhones in 2014, but the difference between the two has yet to even be whispered about.
Apple has also stuck to fall release dates, but some rumors have surfaced that the company could be considering a spring unveiling ahead of a summer release. Samsung has already revealed its Galaxy S5 smartphone, so Apple could follow suit and release their next iPhone sooner rather than later.
As is customary, Apple will release a new mobile operating system with the iPhone and iOS 8 is not expected to be the drastic overhaul iOS 7 was. With iOS 8, Apple has already expressed users can expect another Apple Maps redesign. Also all but confirmed for iOS 8 is the CarPlay feature that will fully integrate a user's iPhone with select cars that support it.
Also a tradition for Apple, the company will keep its plans tightly clamped pretty much up until they tell us all they have an announcement they would like to make.
