'Outlander' Season 3 Premiere Date 2017 Returns With Shorter Episodes; Part 1 Starts In 1746, 1948 Timeline
By"Outlander" season 3 premiere date 2017 is slated in fall this year. Aside from its release, Starz has also revealed what the third installment will be all about.
'Outlander' Series: What We Know So Far
According to Starz' press release, "Outlander" season 3 premieres in September this year. The official statement was announced yesterday, Feb. 15.
Though the network decided for a fall premiere, they are still yet to give an exact date for Episode 1. What is known so far is that fans will get to see another season of "Outlander" after the third installment.
Based on Den of Geek report, the early renewal of Season 3 and 4 was made in June last year. Both seasons will be based on Diana Gabaldon's book; Season 3 follows the story in "Voyager" while Season 4 will be about "Drums of Autumn".
On a different note, back to the third season, Starz decided to order shorter episodes than the first part. "Outlander" Season 3 premiere date 2017 in fall will only have 13 episodes that are similar to the second installment.
As per the aforementioned site, Season 3 filming started last September 2016 and was scheduled to end in June. Last March, the series' production team moves to another setting. From Scotland, the story will be set up in Cape Town, South Africa. The plot is set to shoot a "sea voyage scenes" where "Black Sails" filmed theirs.
In the said press release, Starz' president of programming Carmi Zlotnik states the following:
"While 'Droughtlander' will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety. The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible."

As for the plotline, the press release noted that the season picks up right after Claire returns to the year 1948. She is pregnant with Jamie's baby that adds up to her struggles as she reappears and reconciles with her first husband, Frank.
Meanwhile, The Scottish Sun previously noted that episode 1 will also start in the year 1746, Jamie's time. He suffers from the effect of the Battle of Culloden between the British government and Jacobite highlanders. Not to mention, with the thought of losing Claire.
As for the other details about "Outlander" season 3 official synopsis, below is the additional description:
"As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire's heart... as well as new doubt.
