Photos and plot details continue to leak out of the set of "Outlander" Season 3. The series, which stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire, respectively, is currently filming in South Africa.

The new set photos tease grand and epic scenes for Season 3. There were several huge ships fashioned after the old times.

The Starz series also shot scenes in Scotland prior to South Africa. "Outlander" executive producer Maril Davis announced the last day of shooting in Scotland on Feb. 7 via Twitter and thanked the crew for their hard work.

The third season will open in 1950s Boston, with Claire resuming her married life to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies), while mourning Jamie's death. Little does she know that Jamie didn't really die at the Battle of Culloden.

Season 3 will showcase how damaged Claire's marriage is to Frank. The latter chose to raise Claire and Jamie's daughter as his own despite his wife's complicated infidelity. Frank and Claire are both aware that their marriage is strained, but they are using the child, Brianna, to mend the frayed edges. The co-parenting effort is somewhat working because the couple is "not miserable 24/7."

Balfe said that Claire is "trying to build a life" after Jamie's death and that means staying with Frank. However, Claire feels that "nothing can live up" to the "all-consuming" love she felt for Jamie, so she pushes Frank to the side and prioritizes her career as a nurse instead. This leads to "disappointment and resentment" from Frank and "a broken marriage," TV Insider reported.

It should be noted, however, that Claire and Frank's marriage isn't in tip-top shape even before she got transported to the 18th century. They spent many years apart before that and were having difficulties conceiving a child. Their trip to Scotland in the beginning of the series was really about rekindling their relationship; not to celebrate their reunion.

Then there's the English captain Jack Randall, Frank's ancestor who he has a spitting image with. Every time Claire sees Frank, she can't help but recount Jack's horrible actions. The man tortured and raped Jamie, and also sexually abused Fergus (Romann Berrux), the young boy under Claire and Jamie's care.

Jamie's life went through several twists and turns during Claire's absence. In the books, he had a hard time trying to forget Claire but eventually had sex with other women. He also made efforts to move on by marrying former girlfriend, Laoghaire (Nell Hudson), just as Claire goes back in time to be with him.
