With "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 slated to premiere soon, rumor mills have swirled reports hinting the return of Nina Dobrev, who rumors indicate, will reprise her role of the protagonist Elena Gilbert, around whom the series revolve.

This piece of news, as expected stirred conversations among the series' fans; dividing them into two groups - one, in favor of Dobrev's return and the other against it.

Those supporting the return of the Bulgarian-Canadian actress believe it is imperative to close Elena's relationship with Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder.

Some fans however, think Dobrev rebounding to the hit CW series does not seem quite necessary, DesignNTrend reported.

That said, Dobrev's reappearance will open up a whole new avenue of possibilities in terms of her character and her connections with Damon, Bonnie, Caroline and Stefan.

Dobrev threw in the towel after season 6. Rumors hint the move stems from her split with her former beau Ian Somerhalder. Apparently, this was one of the reasons why she left the show.

The series' developer and producer, Julie Plec is confident that not only "The Final Girls" star is onboard, but also that she will return to the show as Elena. However, Plec's decision wasn't quite well-received by the fans with one of them (@Hannah) clearly expressing her displease with Dobrev's return to the series on social media.

Plec, on the other hand seem to look at things from a different perspective as she told TV Line that she plans to stick to her decision of bringing Elena back "at the very end."With that being established, the big question is how exactly will Elena's return influence the story?

Kat Graham, who portrays the role of Bonnie in the show will reportedly stop work as soon as "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 comes to an end. Avid viewers of the show may remember that if Bonni dies, Elena gets an opportunity to live. Citing the events in Season 7, it looks like Bonnie will end up sacrificing her life to save Enzo and Damon for being possessed by the creature in the vault forever, HollywoodLife reported.

Besides, rumor mills have churned speculations hinting that "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will mark the show's final outing, following Somerhalder's disclosure at Walker Stalker Con on April 10. He divulged that "The Vampire Diaries" has one more season left, however he immediately came under fire from fans for his statement, eventually compelling the actor to retract his statement.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is slated to make an appearance on The CW this fall.
