Apple still plans to release a four-inch "C" model of the iPhone 6, but it will not debut at the event scheduled for Sept. 9.

Citing unnamed sources, 9to5 Mac learned the rumored iPhone 6C will not be ready for the mid-fall release the top-line handsets are expected to get. Apple is not expected to release the cheaper alternative this year and it is unclear if it will ever come out at all.

Apple is also reportedly going to discontinue the iPhone 5C, 9to5 Mac learned. Now two years old, the first-ever iPhone "C" model did not sell well and was likely to be on the chopping block regardless.

Apple tends to discontinue old iPhone models when new ones are released, but they still tend to resurface on various alternative markets as low-cost options for customers. The release of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will knock down the price of the 6 and 6 Plus by $100. Apple also plans to sell a fifth iPhone this fall: the 5S, which will wind up as the cheapest option and the lone four-inch iPhone on the market.

Forbes speculated what Apple will unveil on Sept. 9 alongside the new iPhones and iOS, as the tech giant confirmed it booked a much larger venue than it typically does. Forbes suspects the event will be used to demonstrate "HomeKit," a system that promises to allow users to control various aspects of their homes through Apple's devices.
