Microsoft has been long-rumored to be working hard on a Surface Phone. The most striking feature of the upcoming Microsoft device is its foldable form factor.

Reports have swarmed the internet claiming that the Redmond, Washington based tech titan is indeed working on a Microsoft-branded smartphone. The Microsoft Surface Phone could roll out with a truly eye-catching new design. Considering the success of Microsoft's Surface Pro and Surface Book devices, a Surface Phone would make logical sense to dominate the hardware industry, according to Express.

It can be recalled that the tech company had filed patents for gadgets using hinges before. Nonetheless, the recently discovered patent might somehow reveal that the most striking feature of the highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone is its foldable form factor. Twitter user WalkingCat posted a patent from the tech giant for a clamshell hinge device. The patent was filed about a couple of years ago, but recently granted to Microsoft, Free Patents Online reported.

The patent mainly consists of four parts, there are two transparent panels which are next to each other. Also, it has a display layer with two display panels separated by a gap. These elements resulted into a foldable display of a device.

Meanwhile, the tech company is said to be making an official Win32 app support for Windows 10, which will debut in the long-awaited and desperately needed Microsoft Surface Phone. Microsoft reportedly designed the Surface Phone to function as a pocket-sized laptop.

In spite of that, Microsoft's chief executive Satya Nadella made it known that the tech titan doesn't want to roll out just another conventional handset that functions like the rest of the smartphones currently available in the market. The tech giant will boast something exclusive to the upcoming Surface Phone. If rumors turn out to be true, Microsoft will introduce the highly anticipated Surface Phone this year.
