A few of Nexus 6 owners have found that the latest software update downgrades their device to Nougat 7.0 from Android 7.1.1.
Google Nexus 6 Android Nougat 'Downgrade' Update
The downgrading issue was first posted by a Nexus 6 user who claimed that it has affected the device's SafetyNet Test result. The prompt gets a huge attention from users since the apps are no longer compatible to the older Android version, 9to5Google reported.
Some of them complained that the issue could be related to the end of Google support to the device. Forum users have even suggested others to install custom ROM instead of relying on the Android Nougat update from Google. This is the first time that a security patch downgrades the software version.
In addition to the problem, Android Pay also experiences a crash due to the failure to pass safety check for mobile banking security. This isn't an error or bug because Google is aware of the issue. In fact, when users are feeling disappointed, Google suggests them to factory reset the device instead of making a fix, Android Police reported.
Furthermore, Google said that Nexus 6 users can still continue 'flashing future builds' by staying on the latest version (Nougat 7.1.1).
Google Nexus 7 Update, Release Date
Skipping the Nexus 6 matter for awhile, the upcoming Nexus 7 has earned a lot of speculation although there's no single leak or legitimate information that could corroborate. Droid Report learned that the 2017's tablet will run Android 7.0 Nougat instead of Andromeda OS.
The media referenced Hiroshi Lockheimer statement a few months back as he said that there won't be any merge of Android and Chrome OS. This might mean that if ever Nexus 7 2017 will come out this year, tech crowds will find it as a refresh from the older tablet with hardware upgrades.
