Expect the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus to come with hefty price tags. The upcoming handsets will be more expensive than its predecessors, but it will definitely have something new to offer potential buyers.
Leaker Roland Quandt claimed via Twitter that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will have a starting price of $845 and $950, respectively. The Galaxy S7 retailed at roughly $750, while the Galaxy S7 Edge's most basic model is at $769.
Aside from the black, white and silver-colored models, the new Galaxy phones will also have a violet-colored variant. Other reports claimed that the handsets will come in Blue Coral, Pink Gold and Gold models.
The Galaxy S8 is expected to have a headphone jack, but a new patent filing contradicts that. According to SamMobile, Samsung has recently filed a trademark application at the European Union for a brand named U Flex. The latter's description revealed that it will be used as "Earphones; Bluetooth earset; Wireless earset for mobile phones, smartphones and tablet computers."
U Flex may fully support the enhanced standard, Bluetooth 5.0, which will introduce better speed, range and reliability than its predecessors. That being said, Samsung may be gearing up to launch a pair of wireless earphones that will rival Apple's AirPods.
Aside from listening to music, AirPods can be used to interact with Siri, contact a person and dictate messages, among others. Samsung could use these functionalities on their wireless earbuds, too, and probably add other features to come out on top of Apple.
The Galaxy S8 will reportedly have a 5.8-inch Quad HD display, while the Galaxy S8 Plus will come with a 6.2-inch QHD AMOLED display. A recent Twitter leak revealed that Samsung's next flagship phone will have a display that curves on the left and right sides.
As expected, the top and bottom bezels are smaller to make the screen bigger. A physical home button is missing from the leaked photo of the device, meaning Samsung may have put it behind the display. A fingerprint sensor sits on the back of the device beside the primary camera lens.
The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be unveiled on Wednesday, March 29, Forbes reported. The phones will be released to the public between April 21 and April 28. What do you think of a violet-colored model for the phone? Are you excited for the device's wireless earphones? Share your thoughts below.
