‘Budget’ Google Phones Could Refer to Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X Successors; Low-Cost Pixel Phones are Impossible
ByWhile Google is putting a significant amount of hardwork to the purported Pixel 2 smartphones, the Mountain View giant is also reportedly working on "budget" phones. Since Google VP killed off the rumor about Pixel budget phones, Nexus fans suspect about the possibility of Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X successors.
Google Vice President Rick Osterloh has put an end to the rumors about Pixel budget phones which started surfacing the internet last January. In an interview during the Mobile World Congress, Osterloh said that Pixel phones will remain under the premium smartphone category since they are associated with special features, PCMag India reported.
Upon the dismissal of the said rumors, fans have immediately put a twist on the story suspecting that the budget Google phones which are reportedly on the stage of early development are the successors of Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. This speculation can also be drawn out from the fact that Pixel and Pixel phones have low sales turn out in the fourth quarter of 2016 because of branding and supply-demand issues.
Another speculation from the tipster directly refers to the revival of the Google-made Android One phones which will go on sale exclusively to emerging markets like India and China. According to Phone Arena, the speculation does make sense because it adheres to the fact that Google wanted to resuscitate the Android One program with an impeccable hardware.
From all these speculations and rumors gathered from different individuals and groups, there's only thing that's for sure, Pixel-branded smartphones will always be associated with premium experience in the same way as Pixel C tablet and Chromebook Pixel laptop introduced to the market. Since Google decided to focus on developing smartphones and tablets, the search giant is expected to introduce more premium Pixel-branded products in the future.
Should Google release the purported budget phones this year, higher demands for the phones are expected than the new Pixel phones. Meanwhile, smartphone enthusiasts are waiting for Pixel 2 to hit the store shelves in October this year.
