Several reports suggest that Google Pixel 2 will come without the 3.5mm headphone jack this year; however, prototypes of the new smartphones suggest that otherwise. In another report, budget Pixel phones are set to launched alongside the Pixel 2.

Headphone Jack Will Be Very Much Alive in Google Pixel 2

In contrary to the recently surfacing rumors about the absence of headphone jack in Google Pixel 2, the search giant won't be dropping the old technology. According to CNET, the prototypes of the upcoming Google-made hardware does not seem to tell such story but there's still enough time for the design modification should the team chooses to remove the headphone jack.

In relation to that, keeping the headphone jack in Pixel 2 has three good reasons: first, in the absence of dongles, headphone jacks works fine with old audio devices and headphones; second, it's a clear distinction between Pixel phones and iPhones; and third, Google is not into headphone business thus, pulling out an AirPod-like devices would be difficult for them.

On the other hand, Google has also three good reasons for killing off the headphone jack if the situation requires them to: first, removing the little hole for easier waterproofing; second, to achieve thinner body; and third, riding the world's wireless trend and eliminate the conventional technologies.

Will Google Invest on "Budget Pixel Phones"?

Unfortunately, Google has shutdown the rumors about "budget Pixel Phones" or the "Pixel 2B" which is rumored to come in lower price points. According to Phone Arena, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain Google SVP Rick Osterloh revealed in an interview that there is no work-on-progress for the low-cost phones because Pixel 2 is categorized under premium, in the same way its predecessors were presented last October 2016.

However, Osterloh clarifies that should Google decides to work on budget phones, these are not necessarily Pixel or Pixel 2 for that matter. He remained firm in saying that Pixel-branded smartphones are premium as excellence is evident from Chromebook Pixel and Pixel C tablets.
