Pinecone, Xiaomi's in-house processor will be making a debut on Feb. 28 according to the official invitation. It was thought that Pinecone was designed for budget devices but recent reports suggest it could compete head-to-head with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835.
Xiaomi will launch two Pinecone processors
One of the custom-made processors manufactured by Samsung is reportedly the high-end chip that will feature Mali G71 MP12 GPU. Both, Pinecone V970 and Snapdragon 835 are made in 10nm process. The SoC market will now have another alternative, a highly competitive Pinecone that could take on high-end brands like Apple and Samsung, Wall Street Journal reported.
Another Pinecone processor with a label number V670 is said to be manufactured on 28nm process node and feature Mali T860 GPU.
Pinecone will debut with Mi 5c
The reports on Mi 5c getting Pinecone processor are making rounds on the internet. NDTV has learned that Xiaomi could be introducing the said device and the mobile chipset on Feb. 28. It looks like Xiaomi is gearing up to follow Apple and Samsung path in chip production.
Mi 5c or Xiaomi Meri will reportedly run Android 7.1.1 Nougat with 3 GB RAM on board. This isn't in line with previous reports that claimed Mi 5c will be getting a Snapdragon 625 chipset. Other sources reported that the handset will sport 3,200 mAh battery capacity.
There isn't any word on the price but it is safe to assume that the Mi 5c is a mid-range phone with powerful specs and Xiaomi is always making each product affordable, thus, the price won't likely be expensive.
