‘Penny Dreadful' Season 4 TV Series Spinoff Cancelled?; Showtime Series To Become A Comic Book Series [VIDEO]
By"Penny Dreadful" Season 4 was recently cancelled by its home network, Showtime, but fans of the series still have a chance to know what happened to their favorite characters.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime president David Nevins explained their decision to cancel the once-hit TV series. Nevins explained that the original plan for "Penny Dreadful" was for the series to air for only three seasons. With this, the network was left with no other choice but to agree with what series creator John Logan wanted.
According to Nevins, he simply agreed with what Logan wanted because he knew exactly how "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 should end. Logan also knew what Season 3 was the longest installment the series could go.
Meanwhile, despite the show's recent cancellation, Screen Rant reported that a comic book version featuring the characters of "Penny Dreadful" is currently in the works. The printed series will be released sometime next year. On the show's official Twitter account, it was also announced that the story in the comic book will take place six months after the events that happened in the season 3 finale.
More specifically, the comic book will focus mostly on werewolf Ethan Chandler, played by Josh Hartnett in the TV show. Even though he is described as strong and fearless, Ethan is one of the characters who are mostly affected by the things that happened in the finale. As such, he will struggle to move on, but will once again be called to fight against the creatures that crawl out at night.
In other news, the comic book version of "Penny Dreadful" will be created by the series' co-executive producer Chris King. Illustrator Jesus Hervas will be responsible for the drawings. The comic book will be published by Titan Comics.
"Penny Dreadful" aired its last episode on June 19.
