The American telecommunications equipment company Qualcomm, has released additional information about its flagship Snapdragon 821 processor, that was introduced in July. The company intended to fill the gap over the slip ups of its predecessor, Snapdragon 820.
The Snapdragon 820, which was used in Samsung Galaxy Note 7, is considered to be decent, but not amazing. So, the Snapdragon 821 is expected to come along with improved performance.
The CPU performance is way much better across the board, with boot times, app loading and overall performance of the Snapdragon 821 is up to 10 percent faster, based on the report of Engadget.
The Snapdragon 821 is expected to arrive with a top speed of 2.4GHz, up from 2.1GHz.
As the first smartphones to use Google's Daydream virtual reality platform are slated to fire up later this year, many of those devices is anticipated to be equipped with Qualcomm's latest processor, the Snapdragon 821.
Mobile chip manufacturers often tweak processor designs to boost up the performance. The 10 percent CPU improvement of Qualcomm's latest processor is decent, considering the Snapdragon 821 and the predecessor are based on the same Kryo architecture. Typically, such CPU performance improvements happen with architectural upgrades in chips, according to PC World.
However, as smartphones are required to have a horsepower for Daydream, which is Google's project to bring virtual reality (VR) to the masses. Qualcomm specifically noted that the Snapdragon VR toolset will act in accordance with Google Daydream, Tom's Guide reported.
As Google expected a number of smartphones coming out soon that will work with Daydream, it seems like Qualcomm is making its way for those devices to be powered by its Snapdragon 821 processor.
Anyway, the new mobile CPU, Snapdragon 821 processor, isn't just about graphics performance, it also promised a 5 percent increase in power savings. With that, phone makers may tend to shrink the size of the devices by using smaller-sized batteries.
