College Basketball Recruiting Rankings: Duke Leads the Pack, Cal Making Huge Strides
ByCoach Mike Krzyzewski's incoming recruiting class may well have the Duke Blue Devils in contention for a second consecutive National Championship.
In an "Insider-only" rankings list, ESPN placed Duke's class tops overall on the strength of three five-star high school prospects and one four-star. Accompanied by one other recruit, the class has four ESPN 100 prospects, twice the national average for top-tier programs.
Kentucky currently sits in second with four overall recruits - two prospects rated five stars, one given four stars and one other. After Kentucky saw four big men declare for the NBA Draft, they secured a commitment from Skal Labissiere, a five-star center and the second overall ESPN 100 prospect.
Following Kentucky was another SEC team looking to tip the scales in the conference, as LSU has secured three overall recruits, all of whom are ranked within the ESPN 100 list. Highlighting LSU's class is Ben Simmons, a power forward from Australia who tops the ESPN 100.
Joining Simmons will be five-star guard Antonio Blakeney and four-star guard Brandon Sampson. The trio may not make LSU's roster particularly large, but the Tigers will be teeming with athleticism.
Michigan State, a team that made a memorable NCAA Tournament run after an underwhelming season, ranked fourth overall on ESPN's list. With one five-star and three four-star recruits, coach Tom Izzo will be challenging Wisconsin's Big Ten reign.
Fresh off a Pac-12 title, Arizona re-tooled with one five-star and three four-star recruits. Looking to challenge that title will be the Cal Golden Bears, who jumped from 22 in ESPN's rankings to sixth thanks to two five-star commits within the ESPN 100 top 10.
