Apple is reportedly preparing iOS 8.2 for a March release, but the software update may also be heralding the release of the company's next big thing.

Citing "a trusted source," BGR reported Apple is planning to launch its next major iOS update in March. Normally these updates stabilize the software and iron out a wrinkle or two, but iOS 8.2 is probably also going to bring in Apple Watch support for mobile devices.

PC Pro recently obtained a transcript of Apple's "first quarterly results call of the year." On the call with shareholders and analysts, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the Watch will start shipping in April, so users can soon expect an official pre-order for the device.

"Development for Apple Watch is right on schedule and we expect to begin shipping in April," Cook said, according to Seeking Alpha. "The creativity and software innovation going on around Apple Watch is incredibly exciting and we can't wait for our customers to experience them."

He also said he has been wearing the Apple Watch "every day" and "couldn't imagine living without it." But Cook is probably not surprising anyone, as Apple has advertised all along that the Watch was coming "early in 2015." An April release may be on the backend of "early" in the year, but it aligns with their loose timeline regardless.

There have been signs that the Apple Watch was close to being shipped. 9to5Mac learned in late Jan. that Apple stores were being given a limited amount of Watches to train their employees in how to use it, and therefore how to sell it. The website also learned Apple stores were planning on a security upgrade.
