Yale Admits 728 Early Action Applicants for Class of 2029 with Full Financial Aid to Those Earning Under $75K
For this admission cycle, Yale introduced a new flexible testing policy, which sees an applicant's potential over test scores.
ByRecently, Yale College announced early action admissions for the upcoming Class of 2029. From all 6,729 early applicants, the college only let in 728 students while deferring 17% of them for later consideration during the regular decision round.
Considered one of the most competitive years, Yale denied admission to about 71% of applicants, while 1% of applicants came with incomplete or withdrawn applications.
Alongside early action admissions, Yale reported that it welcomed 66 students into its programs through QuestBridge College Match, a nonprofit program connecting high-achieving, low-income students to some of the most prestigious colleges.
To be clear, Yale's most generous financial aid package is reserved for these QuestBridge scholars. Besides a full ride to college, they also get a room and board, health insurance, and a $2,000 start-up grant for the first year. Students from families earning less than $75,000 are qualified for this aid.
How Yale Admits Applicants
This recent admission cycle came from a new flexible testing policy that lets applicants submit scores, whether from ACT, SAT, Advanced Placement (AP), or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. Like all admission requirements set during the COVID-19 pandemic, standardized test scores remain optional.
Jeremiah Quinlan, Yale's Dean of Admissions, mentioned that this new admission policy helps evaluate students within the context of their high school environments. This means focusing on their overall potential rather than solely on test scores.
Students who are admitted are invited to join Bulldog Days, a rich experience on campus set for April 2025. Travel grants are also provided by Yale to lower-income students, so they are not discouraged from attending in order to make an informed decision on their enrollment.
At the same time, there are virtual events and communities accessible online as well, which help connect freshly-admitted students with others in the Yale community.
As Yale fetes its newest admits, the admissions office readies to prepare for regular decision results, which are to arrive in March. This large applicant pool constitutes another chance for thousands of students to place themselves at one of the leading universities globally.
