The Bill Gatton Foundation has blessed the pockets of the University of Virginia's College at Wise.

Known as the UVA Wise, the donation costs $11.2 million and is the largest donation recorded in its history.

Along with additional funding from the UVA Bicentennial Scholarship, the Bill Gatton Foundation's donation brings the total to $15.7 million. These financial aids will be used to support initiatives, programs, and scholarships within the college, which can benefit both students and faculty for a long time.

Philanthropy News shared that the donation will create six endowed funds that will help support ongoing and possible future educational efforts at UVA Wise. It will also support the Chancellor's Greatest Needs Funds, which will be used to address the most pressing needs of the university.

To recognize the donation, several departments, buildings, and college softball fields will be named after Bill Gatton, the philanthropist behind the donation.

To pay it forward, the donation will also establish a Bill Gatton Scholars Program aimed at providing scholarships to deserving students and the Rachel Clay-Keohane Mathematics Fund named after a former women's basketball star who is now a math professor at UVA Wise. With this, the new fund will be able to support students pursuing studies in mathematics, honoring the legacy of Clay.

Chancellor Herny expressed that the donation gift will be a transformative change on the university, benefitting current and future students.
