An argument between coworkers that resulted in one shooting at the other prompted a "police emergency" at Emory University's Atlanta campus on Thursday morning. The suspect is still at large.
Authorities responded to the incident at the Emory Point mixed-use development around 8:20 a.m., according to 11 Alive News. The all-clear was given half an hour later.
The Emory Police Department told the outlet that the incident began with a disagreement between two coworkers at a kitchen within the property, after which a 60-year-old unidentified male "retrieved a revolver from his car and returned to the kitchen."
"The subject shot at one of the survivors and missed. While leaving the restaurant, the subject threatened and brandished a gun at another co-worker," the statement read, adding that it appeared to be an "isolated incident" between two employees of an "Emory-affiliated service company"
Police say the man then left the premises, pointed the gun at another coworker, and drove away. Investigators are currently searching for the suspected gunman, who is thought to be driving a 2021 silver Chevrolet Malibu with the Georgia license plate CXZ7407.
One student residing in the mixed-use property told Channel 2 that he awoke to shouting and looked outside.
"Apparently they got into a scuffle and shots were fired, and that's when everyone started running. No one was hit as far as I'm aware," Neil Pasawala said.
Emory University officials said the man will no longer be permitted on Emory's campuses or in any Emory facilities, according to the outlet.
