Brandon Pham, a Cal Poly student, was sentenced to 210 days in San Luis Obispo County Jail on Wednesday after pleading no contest to charges related to bringing loaded firearms on campus and shooting into a campus apartment.

Pham broke down in tears as Judge Catherine Swysen handed down the sentence, urging him to reflect on his actions, The Tribune reported.

"Let this serve as a lesson," Swysen said. "You have your whole life ahead of you."

Pham and fellow student Charles Hojaboom were arrested in November 2023 after campus police found them with a shotgun, a concealed pistol, and a knife near Poly Canyon Road, according to the outlet. Court records showed the two had fired guns on campus multiple times. Pham will also serve two years probation and complete 60 hours of community service.

With good behavior, Pham is expected to serve 105 days in jail and may be eligible for house arrest.

A judge has yet to determine whether Hojaboom is competent to stand trial.
