Livingstone College in North Carolina recently received an additional $8 million donation from an anonymous benefactor, marking yet another significant contribution as students return to classes.
Last month, the college received a record-breaking $10 million donation, the largest in its history. Over the past nine months, this anonymous donor has given a total of $25 million to the HBCU, according to HBCU Gameday. The school said on Saturday that the money would go toward its infrastructure and capital projects.
The college, with an enrollment of fewer than 900 students, is the latest HBCU to receive a major donation as the fall semester begins.
Earlier this month, Morehouse College, an all-boys HBCU located in Atlanta, Georgia, announced that an anonymous donor gave a $20 million gift to the school to expand academic programs and professorships at the college. The donation was contributed to the "Making Men of Consequence" campaign, which is the largest fundraising initiative in the schools 157-year history.
Morehouse College President David A. Thomas said in a statement at the time that the "transformational" donation will allow the school to "increase the ranks of our esteemed and talented professors so that we can uphold the legacy of excellence in our classrooms as our veteran faculty retire."
The college has a student body of roughly 2,300 men.
