Red paint was splattered across the Brooklyn apartment of Columbia University's Chief Operating Officer Cas Holloway early Thursday morning.
The act of vandalism included the spray-painting of a red triangle on the front of his residence, the smashing of his door, and the release of crickets inside the apartment, according to Myles Miller of NBC News.
Accompanying the vandalism was a letter criticizing Holloway's tenure since he took office on Jan. 30. The letter, which featured an image of a noose, accuses him of fostering an environment of "violence and destruction," alleging that he "stood by as the fascist NYPD beat students."
The act appears to be linked to ongoing campus tensions and dissatisfaction with university administration, particularly regarding its handling of recent pro-Palestinian student protests. Several protesters were arrested and threatened with expulsion following the spring demonstrations on campus.
"You still have time to do the right thing," the letter continues. "Do not continue your legacy of repression. Do not expel these students. Divest from Israel, divest from genocide."
