In a surprise reveal, Nintendo just announced that they will release a new console from the portable 3DS lineup, which is the New Nintendo 2DS XL. It is just like the New Nintendo 3DS XL, but with some features removed.

New Nintendo 2DS XL Just Like New 3DS XL

Nintendo just revealed their latest handheld console system to the world, which was the New Nintendo 2DS XL. It will launch in North America on July 28 with a price tag of $149.99 only. In Japan, it will launch on July 13 and it will follow the same nomenclature with an LL instead of the XL in the name, DualShockers reported.

There are several good features that this new handheld console system has like it has the same screen size of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, but it will not have the 3D feature. It will also have a foldable body, unlike its predecessor, but it will be the same with the rest of the 3DS consoles. It will include the C-stick, the ZL and ZR buttons, and the NFC tech to ensure communication with the amiibo figures, Gematsu reported.

It will be lighter than the 3DS XL, which will be about 260g instead of the usual 329g. Japan will have two color variations, which are the Black and Turquoise combo, and the White and Orange combo. The first one was only announced to be released in North America.

New 2DS XL System Will Have Exclusive "Dragon Quest XI" Themed Version

In other New 2DS XL related news, the handheld console system will have an exclusive "Dragon Quest XI" themed version in Japan. It will have black and silver colors and a metallic Slime on its face. It will be launched in tandem with the video game on July 29, Polygon reported.
