Nintendo has actually revealed the story of the Squid Sisters in "Splatoon 2" and what became of them after the first game. It turns out that there is actually a deep reason for what is happening in the sequel.
"Splatoon 2" Reveals Story Behind Squid Sisters' Splitting Up
The official website of "Splatoon 2" revealed some insight on what has happened to the Squid Sisters before the sequel's story. After the events of the final Splatfest, the last themed multiplayer event, players had to make a difficult decision. This was to choose between Callie, and her cousin Marie, according to its official website.
The prologue story said that things were fine during that time until the results were in and the event ended. It was announced that Marie was the winner of the polls. It seemed okay after the event, but the story ending sounded ominous, and it hinted the two characters were splitting up after a few years, Polygon reported.
The events after the Splatfest results on "Splatoon 2" might have shaken the friendship of Callie and Marie. This would also explain why all of the promotional materials so far do not have them in the limelight. Some have speculated that Callie died, but that is not the case since Nintendo confirmed that she will be back in the sequel.
Toy Maker Adds "Splatoon 2" Toys As Part Of 2017 Plans
Jakks Pacific, a toy maker, revealed that they will be adding "Splatoon 2" toys as part of their 2017 lineup. Chairman and CEO Stephen Berman confirmed that more of the video game's products will be coming later this year to tie in with the game title's launching. In the recent years, they were responsible for making toys related to Nintendo games, which include figures related to "Splatoon" and other game titles, Nintendo Life reported.
