Nintendo will be discontinuing their very popular and very limited Nintendo NES Classic Edition production. The last of the shipments will go out to the many retailers out there throughout this month only.

Nintendo NES Classic Edition Discontinued Production

Nintendo has recently announced that the shipments of the Nintendo Entertainment Sytem: NES Classic systems will be halted, and North America will get their last shipment of it for this month. They encouraged the fans that are interested in getting the classic console system to check with their retail outlets nationwide in regards to its availability. An apology was also issued due to the difficulty for many customers who were trying to find one in their local areas, Gamespot reported.

Nintendo NES Classic Edition Not A Long-Term Product

Nintendo also revealed that the Nintendo NES Classic Edition was not supposed to be an ongoing, long-term product. This changed after a lot of fans wanted to get their hands on one, and they added extra shipments to their original plan. They have no more plans to produce more NES Classic systems for North America, a Nintendo representative told IGN in a statement.

Fates Of Nintendo NES Classic Edition Controller And Third Party Accessories Revealed

As for the NES Classic controller, its production will be discontinued as well. For the third party production of the accessories, it will be up to the individual manufacturers to decide whether they continue or not.

Nintendo Mini Famicom Temporarily Discontinued In Japan

Since the Nintendo NES Classic Edition will be discontinued in the west, Nintendo has also decided to end the Nintendo Mini Famicom in Japan. The good part of this announcement is that they will only halt its production temporarily. Nintendo revealed that when they resume manufacturing after the temporary end of production, they will provide more information at another time on its website, according to the official website of the classic console system.
