Huawei Wins Patent Case Against Samsung Electronics For 20 Samsung Devices; P10 Camera Wins Against S8's [Video]
ByThe Chinese court favors Huawei in its patent infringement case against Samsung Electronics for 20 Samsung devices including Galaxy S7. It may not be the only win for Huawei's over the South Koreans with P10's impressive Leica camera stacking up well against the Galaxy S8's.
Last week, a China court asked Samsung Electronics to pay Huawei the amount of 80 million yuan or $11.6 million U.S. dollars for patent infringement in several Samsung devices. Samsung's troubles are far from over with many other patent cases with Huawei. This is on top of its long-running suit with Apple, Financial Post reported.
However, Huawei may yet win another case with Samsung Electronics with its P10 competing against the Galaxy S8. Huawei and Samsung devices have been racing to garner the niche market of Apple. Huawei is bringing its guns with its state-of-the-art Leica cameras unmatched by the latest smartphones.Incidentally, the South Koreans have edged Apple for the first quarter of 2017 in sales even without the S8.
Huawei's P10 back-facing camera features the 12MP Leica lens with a f/1.8 aperture. It also comes with a 20MP monochrome sensor to capture quality photos even in low light. Its selfie camera has the 8MP also by Leica to deliver sharp, crisp and detailed images.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8 has the 12MP rear camera with a f/1.7 aperture. Samsung Electronics added software enhancements to product topnotch photos which are now standard in many of Samsung devices. The S8 camera can capture 3 photos in succession for every image with the other two shots featuring decreased blurring and improved sharpness. When it comes to the camera, Huawei clearly wins this one, TheNEwPaper reported.
However, the Galaxy S8 has another suite of features to make up for its loss on the camera aspect against Huawei. Samsung Electronics has the power of its own Exynos 8895 to contend with or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 for the Samsung devices in the U.S. Both the P10 and the S8 have 4GB of RAM, which means adequate power to handle multi-tasking or intensive apps.
When it comes to software, Huawei has the Android 7 Emotion UI 5.1. However, Samsung Electronics has been known to be experts in improvising Android OS for various Samsung devices. The South Koreans now add Dex compatibility with Samsung Gear VR. The S8 also has the advantage of Bixby, its digital assistant.
Samsung's new features may hinder Huawei's win in specs race with Samsung Electronics. Huawei can still leverage on its much lower price point as compared to the Samsung devices. The P10 retails for only $798 while the Galaxy S8 is at $1.148. Huawei is less by 30 percent with its Leica camera as its most impressive features. However, the S8 has its Infinity display for prolonged hours of watching videos and other notable features that make the extra cost justifiable.
