#22 Pittsburg is 16-1, 4-0 in the ACC (wait, they're in the ACC?) and is ranked just #22 in the country. Like #19 Cincinnati (15-2, 4-0) -- or the one team that's beaten them this season -- and #20 Creighton (14-2, 5-0), the Panthers are a reputable program with a sterling record and from a major conference, but, because of little preseason hype and a weak non-conference schedule, they're not even in the top 18.

If Pittsburg beats #2 Syracuse (17-0, 4-0 ACC) today at 4:00 pm EST on ESPN, they'll finally have a big win on their resume and perhaps move into the top 15. Still, 4-0 in the ACC, a non-conference win against Stanford (11-7, 2-2) and a one-point loss to the 19th ranked team in the country means this won't be an easy game for Syracuse, who've been sufficient but not spectacular in their last five wins following the big comeback victory over #6 Villanova (15-1, 4-0), 78-62.

Ironically, both former Big East teams will be facing their best ACC competition of the season today. They're also the only two undefeated teams left in the ACC.

Though the Panthers have chops as a Big East heavyweight, their reputation for never quite living up to expectations in post season play may also be slightly hurting their current standing in the AP poll. In 10 season under head coach Jamie Dixon, they have a .76 winning percentage and were the #1 seed twice, but their best finish was an elite eight appearance in 2008-2009 -- not exactly a bad run, but slightly disappointing when compared to their regular season accolades.

For those picking a Pittsburg upset or at least the cover, keep in mind the season-ending injury of Panther six man Durand Johnson (8.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg). Also keep in mind the spread, just 5 points in Syracuse's favor, according to Vegas Insider. At least the line makers are showing Pitt some respect. But I won't. The Orange are deserving of their #2 ranking and title as one of the most talented teams in the country. 'Cuse for the cover.
