Apple Cancels Two Important New Possible Features of iPhone 8
According to AppleInsider, the supposed new feature of iPhone 8 that includes having "Energous" long range wireless charging ability is now off the record. Reports suggest that it will no longer give the phone what the consumers expected.
As per the aforementioned source, instead of giving iPhone 8 its "Energous" wireless charging, Apple might use Airfuel wireless charging standards or Qi. This is based on the research of Timothy Arcuri from Cowen and Company.
Based on the other reports, there have been no other updates about the new feature of iPhone 8. However, many speculate that the new phone might use Qi as the company recently join Wireless Power Consortium which is connected to Qi.
As for the other details, there has been no confirmation about Energous and Apple's possible connection. However, it was Energous CEO Steve Rizzone who announced their deal with "one of the largest consumer electronics companies in the world". Though the name of the company remains remained under wraps, many speculate that the company is talking about Apple. Not to mention, this is not the first time Energous hinted its connection to Apple company.
On the other hand, another feature of iPhone 8 has been canceled along with Energous wireless charging specs -- Curved OLED Displays.
Based on Forbes, a report from Trendforce claim that Apple will not use the curve display design to its iPhone. This is after they come across with issues in 3D glasses when it comes to "production yield and drop test result". Meaning to say, iPhone 8 will not have that Samsung Edge feel. However, the said next model is expected to have 2.5D glass.
