Blackberry Mercury: Qwerty-Android with Snapdragon 821, 4GB RAM; Last Phone from Blackberry to be Launched Feb. 25
ByQwerty isn't dead. Blackberry gears up for a Mercury launch next month.
Blackberry Mercury specifications
Mercury or DTEK70 is a Qwerty handset with 4.5-inch display. It's rumored to have pixels resolution of 1,620 x 1,080. Under the hood, Blackberry Mercury will sport Snapdragon 821 chip and 4 GB of RAM coupled with 64 GB internal storage.
The optics will use 13 MP sensor for rear-camera and 8 MP for front-facing shooter. Blackberry Mercury will come with Android Nougat pre-installed, according to GSM Arena.
Moreover, the full HD display will be powered by 3,200 mAh battery. Mercury uses USB type C port for charging.
Specs-wise, the Mercury seems to be a properly-made device with up-to-date hardware setup. It is an Android mid-ranger that can be a great alternative to the overwhelming amount of touchscreen devices available in the market today.
As far as the design is concerned, the phone has its speaker at the top part. A unique placement of the fingerprint sensor is what makes the smartphone interesting. The biometric sensor is nicely planted in the space bar for unlocking the device.
Mercury will be the last phone manufactured by Blackberry
The sad news, however, is the fact that Mercury will be the last handset offered by the company according to CEO John Chen. Express reported that Mercury was introduced at this year's CES and the February press event will mark the last Blackberry variant that the company made and designed.
Blackberry is reportedly no longer manufacturing smartphones in the future due to the declining growth. It will, however, look for partnerships with other phone companies to distribute the handsets.
Chen stressed that there will be more Blackberry phones in the future to be distributed locally and globally.
