The Huawei Mate 9 is a relatively new entrant into the smartphone market that promises to be a flagship killer. The LG V20 is the closest to it in terms of specs. How does it fare in comparison?
Display
The Huawei Mate 9 has a 5.9-inch Full HD screen, which is adequate for those not contemplating on running VR-based activities. The LG V20 sports a 5.7-inch screen with a secondary display strip above the main screen for accessing shortcuts.
However, the Huawei Mate 9's screen though offers full HD is not as high in standard as the V20 but close enough.
Specs and performance
The Huawei Mate 9 comes with an in-house made Kirin 960 processor that is an octa-core powerhouse. Four cores are clocked at 2.4 GHz and the other four are clocked at 1.8 GHz. It features a Mali-G71 MP8 for its GPU which usually accompanies Kirin processors and reportedly more capable than Adreno's. Memory is at 4GB supported by 64GB internal storage expandable up to 256GB.
The LG V20 coming in with a different package in the Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset, with 2 cores clocked at 2.15 GHz and the other 2 clocked at 1.6 GHz. Its GPU is an Adreno 530. Memory and Storage are identical with the Mate 9, although V20 comes with a 32GB internal memory option.
The advantage the Mate 9 has over the V20 is its speed over time use. The Mate 9 actually becomes faster the more it is used. Its software learns and adapts to its user's usage over time, according to Gadgets Post.
Cameras
The Huawei Mate 9 employs Leica optics for its 20MP +12MP dual-lens rear camera. It is, however, untested further to see if it's up to par in color reproduction Leica is known for. The LG V20's camera, also a dual-lens setup, though not using Leica optics, does not fall short, according to Gizbot.
LG V20 has a proven track record for having one of the best dual lens cameras for smartphones in the market today. The Mate 9's front camera is an 8MP sensor, while LG's is 5MP. Both do well in medium lighting
Price points
Mate 9 is physically bigger due to its screen size and huge 4000 mAh battery. The V20 only has 3200 mAh but offers a higher resolution display. Both phones do not come cheap costing close to $700 mark.
