‘Hidden Figures’ Actress Octavia Spencer Is Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Woman Of The Year
ByA few days ago, the 2017 Hasty Pudding Man of the Year has been announced. The theater group from Harvard University has chosen Ryan Reynolds. Now, the Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year has been announced and it is none other than Octavia Spencer.
Every year, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals at the Harvard University bestow an honor to a male and female artist to celebrate their impressive contributions to the world of entertainment.
Such honor was previously given to actresses like Kerry Washington, Amy Poehler, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson. The first ever Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year was given to Gertrude Lawrence in 1951. Now, Octavia Spencer is carrying the torch.
To celebrate this memorable occasion, Octavia Spencer will commemorate her new title in a parade through the streets of Cambridge, Massachusetts followed by the traditional roast by the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, as reported by Entertainment Tonight.
Like Ryan Reynolds, she will be presented with the Pudding Pot. According to Hasty Pudding co-producer, Adam Chiavacci, they are honored to receive a talent like Spencer. Chiavacci who helps lead the 240 year old Cambridge group, says knowing that their Pudding Pot will be standing beside her Oscar and Golden Globe humbles him, as reported by CBS Boston.
The festivities will start at 3:00 p.m. on January 26, 2017 and the celebratory roast will happen at 4:00 p.m at the Farkas Hall.
Octavia Spencer, who recently starred in "Hidden Figures" as Dorothy Vaughn, is a tenured American actress and author. Her role in "Hidden Figures" has sparked inspiration to many women in the STEM field. If it was not for Dorothy Vaughn and her team, an American astronaut would not have orbited the Earth and landed successfully. Spencer is known for several film roles as well, including "The Divergent Series," "Zootopia," "The Help" and "Seven Pounds." She is considerably one of Hollywood's most sought after talents.
