Four of The CW's biggest series have all been renewed and will most definitely return next season. Among these is "Legends of Tomorrow" which will come back for its third season. Halfway through the second season, The Legion of Doom completely changed the show from what it was in season one.

"Legends of Tomorrow" Season 1 had our protagonists chasing after Vandal Savage who is hell bent on changing events of the past. Viewers said goodbye to Captain Cold and Hawkgirl and were subsequently replaced by two new heroes in Vixen and Citizen Steel before the crossover episodes happened.

With Rip Hunter missing, Sara, The White Canary, took over leadership of the motley crew in protecting history from aberrations that change the future. The changes to the show gave it a sort of reboot that now allows for more standalone episodes, additions of humor, and more leeway for character development as they find their niche in the team, according to Screenrant.

With Malcolm Merlyn being officially, part of the Legion of Doom, it left followers of the show whether a long-standing and unresolved plot point will finally be resolved. In 2015's "Arrow" and "The Flash" crossover, they battled Vandal Savage. Using a mystical staff, Savage tried relentlessly to kill Hawkman and Hawkgirl until Green Arrow and The Flash found a way to use the staff against Savage turning him to ash.

However, only Hawkman and Hawkgirl can defeat Savage due to their shared origins. It would be plausible that Savage might return seeing Merlyn scooped up his ashes in "Arrow" and put the remains in an urn. Now that Merlyn, who has ties with Savage, is with the Legion of Doom searching for mystical artifacts and squaring off against the "Legends of Tomorrow," according to Comicbook.

It is plausible that Vandal Savage might make a comeback before the end of "Legends of Tomorrow" Season 2. It could also be possible that viewers will finally learn the extent of his relationship with Merlyn. "Legends of Tomorrow" returns with episode 9 "Raiders of the Lost Art" on Jan. 24, 2017 Tuesday, 9 pm ET/PT.
