CyanogenMod community project's holding company, Cyanogen Inc., has announced that it will be terminating its operations. The website and infrastructure of the website had been offline during the Christmas weekend. Nonetheless, CyanogenMod will continue to remain available for individuals who want to build it personally.

CyanogenMod's official Twitter page confirmed the closure of the project. As the CyanogenMod community project is shutting down, the new community-driven custom ROM, dubbed as the Lineage Android Project, continues the remaining portion, according to Android Authority.

This has been a sudden move of Cyanogen Inc., but CyanogenMod community got their hopes up as something good is coming. The developers, as well as the brain behind CyanogenMod, Steve Kondik, are picking things up regarding Lineage OS to serve as CyanogenMod's fork.

Rumor has it that the latest version of CyanogenMod community project has been out, and updated with the most recent Android Security Bulletin patches. Also, it has been said that mountains of source code are in the process, the Lineage Android Distribution, Android Central reported.

According to the CyanogenMod blog's final post, the fork returns to the grassroots community effort that used to define CyanogenMod. Even if they were to regroup and rebuild their own infrastructure and continuing development of CyanogenMod, it would mean to operate with the threat of sale of the brand looming over their heads.

That being the case, CyanogenMod has served the community well for over 8 long years. It has been their home, bringing together friends across the world to celebrate their joy of building and giving. In spite of that, there are no updates regarding the Lineage OS details. Nevertheless, a post on the new project's official Twitter page appears to be the start of a bright future ahead.
