BMW finally released photos of and specifications for the new mini cooper hatchback, CNET reported. It's mostly the same (only slightly bigger than the last version), and brings back some of the "fun" that's defined earlier versions of the hatchback, according to CNET. Indeed, Mini's maker touted it as a "more dynamic and performance-oriented" experience, according to The Associated Press.
The new Mini is BMW's third update of the iconic British vehicle since it revived the brand in the early 2000s with the debut of the re-designed hatchback, according to CNET. In between, the car maker has produced other variants typically larger in size. BMW will sell the latest hatchback in its basic form, diesel, and as a "S" version.
This model gained four inches in length and stayed mostly even in height and width compared to the previous version, according to CNET. Mini confirmed it weighs less but is more rigid than the second generation.
Three drive modes - Mid, Green, and Sport - draw from a three-cylinder engine capable of 135 horsepower. Within the s version, the horsepower increases to 192, according to CNET.
BMW unveiled its latest model Monday in England and highlighted its safeness and space, according to The Washington Post. The car will travel to a series of shows, including the Los Angeles Auto Show this Friday, and will go on sale March 2014 for a base price of $24,000.
It will take the basic Mini to reach 60 mph from an idle position in 7.4 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph. The S version rides to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and tops off at 146 mph, Fox News reported.
