Sony announced that PlayStation 4 consoles has exceeded 50 million sales worldwide. The PlayStation 4 has now sold more units compared to Microsoft's Xbox One and Nintendo's Wii U combined which confirms its position as the fastest-selling gaming system.

The 50 million sales milestone of PlayStation 4 was reached to the company's best ever Black Friday week, which includes the console sales of the more powerful PS4 Pro. On top of that, more than 369.6 million video games have been sold in both retail and digital downloads, according to Sony.

President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, stated that they are truly delighted that the PlayStation 4 gaming community continues to flourish since the launching of the console three years ago.

House also said that due to the tremendous support from their fans and partners around the world, they were able to deliver an unprecedented lineup of devices such as the new slimmer PS4, PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation VR. House added that they will continue to provide the best gaming experiences available via their groundbreaking software lineup and network services.

In related news, Square Enix announced that a demo for the upcoming action role-playing game "NieR: Automata," which is dubbed as DEMO 120161128, will launch through the PlayStation Store on Dec. 22 in Japan. The demo will primarily focus on the game's battle action gameplay, PlayStation Blog reported.

When Square Enix announced the western release date for the upcoming action role-playing game, the video game company also said that they would release a demo in the coming weeks, thus the western PlayStation Stores may acquire the demo the same week.

"NieR: Automata" rolls out for PlayStation 4 in Japan on Feb. 23, March 7 in North America, and March 10 in Europe. A PC release is slated to be available in 2017.
