‘Pacific Rim 2’ News & Updates: 'Pacific Rim: Maelstrom' Confirmed; ‘Spartacus’ Star Gets Into Jaegers? [VIDEO]
ByThe "Pacific Rim 2" is officially underway. Production has finally begun after years of rewrites and waiting. Now, the science fiction blockbuster, officially called "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom," has cameras rolling in Sydney, Australia and joining the cast is Nick Tarabay.
Nick Tarabay played Ashur in the hit show "Spartacus" and is the most recent addition to the ever growing cast. Fans speculate he will be in Jaegers as pilot and not some random guy that doesn't drive giant robots. However, no details about his character were given out as producers are keeping a tight lid on the plot for "Pacific Rim 2."
Tarabay will be joining the cast headlined by John Boyega, who is trading-in his Lightsabers for Jaegers. Also joining them are Scott Eastwood and Jing Tian. While creator Guillermo del Toro is still producing the film, he has handed over the reigns to Director Steven S. DeKnight, CinemaBlend reported.
Nick Tarabay is known for a variety of recurring and guest roles in several TV shows, most notably "Spartacus," where he also worked with DeKnight. The correlation suggests that DeKnight might have selected Tarabay for the role revolving around Jaegers.
As mentioned before, very little is known about the plot, but it was revealed that "Pacific Rim 2" centers on John Boyega's Pentecost. He is the son of Idris Elba's character, who sacrificed himself in one of the original film's robots, Variety reported.
The time gap between "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" and the original hasn't been revealed either. If any of the characters from the original would be returning, is also a mystery. There were also unconfirmed talks of Jaeger-Kaiju hybrids. Fans can only guess what happens. However, for certain there will be lots of action involving robots.
"Pacific Rim" ended with the Kaiju portal to Earth being sealed. It is unclear how the Kaiju return or if the giant robots will be called upon to deal with an entirely different enemy. However, fans eagerly await the premier of "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" on Feb. 23 next year.
