For the meantime, fans of the franchise are treated with a new patch for the original "The Last of Us" on PS4, according to sources.
There have been numerous reports speculating about the release date for "The Last of Us 2." One of which was when voice actor Nolan North and creator Neil Druckmann have both slipped in dishing out hints and details about the sequel being confirmed, Cinemablend reported.
It was noted that "The Las of Us 2" was already being conceptualized until it was halted when the creators were asked to work on "Uncharted 4," another big franchise from Naughty Dog, Cinemablend learned.
In an interview with PlayStation Magazine, creative director Neil Druckmann elaborated that they've already brainstormed various directions on where to the take the sequel to, Cinemablend noted. The creator went on to discussing that they thought of new characters, ideas for a sci-fi or fantasy game, and even returning to the stories of Joel and Ellie for the sequel.
However, as the creators were close in refining their list of ideas, Druckmann mentioned that they were asked to handle the latest installment to "Uncharted" and had to put the development of "The Last of Us 2" on hold until "Uncharted 4" gets released, Cinemablend stated.
Since "Uncharted 4" has already been released earlier this year, fans have been speculating that "the Last of Us 2" has resumed development and is slated for a 2018 release date, Gamerant noted.
For the meantime, fans were delighted to hear that the game's developer has patched the remastered version of "The Last of Us" with HDR (high dynamic range) color support for the PS4, Polygon learned. Noticeable improvements include the dynamic appearance of the sun and how the skies blend better in the background.
As fans await for Naughty Dog to confirm a release date for "The Last of Us 2," they can certainly go back to the original and enjoy the newly patched HDR support on PS4.
