Xbox Live is known to have pioneered the online playing of their games, wherein players need to pay a certain amount for the console gaming experience. This activity is called free play weekends which Xbox Live has hosted for many years. The event this year lasted from Oct. 27-30.

Events such as this allows Xbox 360 and Xbox One console owners to go online for their favorite games for free. Players were able to gain access to Xbox's online multiplayer features without any fees. Special offers were designed by Xbox so that players who want to play and pay for Live can still have the experience, according to a report by Major Nelson.

Xbox One also offered a full game trial for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, a tradition made by Xbox for all games that came before it. Borderline 2 and the Borderlands: The Pre-sequel were available for download at the Xbox Games Store as well its free online play, without any extra cost.

Microsoft says that those who participate in Microsoft's Free Play Days can purchase the The Borderlands: The Handsome Collection at 60 percent off on a permanent basis. The Handsome Collection features villain Handsome Jack. The original Borderlands game is however available for purchase at $7, and its Xbox 360 version is backward compatible for Xbox One.

The Microsoft store offers the unlock bundle for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for totally free of charge, because it is a part of Microsoft's Free Play Days. This collection also includes extra downloaded content, such as Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep and Mechromancer. According to a report by VG 247, the Borderlands Franchise will have a third installment through the developer Gearbox, and its development is currently in progress.
