Samsung Electronics Adds 2nd-gen Artik 7 Into Its IoT Platform; A New Module On High-end Gateways, Multimedia Apps [VIDEO]
BySamsung Electronics' Device Solution arm will soon introduce the new Artik platform as a predecessor of last year's Artik version, thus, entering IoT's second-generation platform. Also, being including in the release is the new device management capabilities in SAMSUNG ARTIKTM Cloud and an expanded partner ecosystem.
According to Samsung Newsroom, Samsung Electronics expanded its SAMSUNG ARTIKTM Smart Internet of Things (IoT) platform, featuring two new module families - ARTIK 0 and ARTIK 7 - through the high demand of businesses using the Internet of Things (IoT) to optimize their services and product offerings. Through this improvement, many of these enterprises can now build IoT solutions to further transform their businesses and enter new markets.
The Artik 7 is a new iteration added to Samsung's lineup, which already caters Artik 1, Artik 5, and Artik 10, SamMobile reported. The previous Artiks are designated for specific users and technologies, specifically the Artik 1 as an IoT solution designed for wearables, and the Artik 5 created for home hubs and smart cameras. Also, Artik 10 is made specifically for home servers and multimedia players.
Following the report, the Artik 7 is expected to showcase performance and power efficiency that lie in the middle of the Artik 5 and the Artik 10.
The Samsung ARTIK Smart IoT platform unifies hardware, software, cloud, security and partner ecosystems in a single offering so that enterprises can reduce the time, cost and risk typically associated with the delivery of complex IoT solutions. As an added module to Artik's family, the latest platform is intended for high-end gateways and multimedia applications.
With an 8-core 64-bit Cortex A-53 processor, the Artik 7 modules work well as gateways and also allow customers to run local analytics, which enables offloading of cloud computing locally to boost latency and responsiveness.
In addition, the ARTIK 7 module brings superior connectivity through its built-in Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, ZigBee®, Thread® and GbE MAC interfaces. Coming with an impressive processor, the module also has a high-end multimedia processor for video and audio processing.
Another key addition to the new Samsung Artik platform is Artik's 7 new device management capabilities in Samsung Artik Cloud, an open data-exchange platform that connects devices, applications and other clouds. Through the new platform, device manufacturers can now easily manage their deployed devices, both edge nodes and gateways, using Artik Cloud. (Samsung Newsroom)
