Gadget freaks are restlessly waiting for Microsoft to provide more details about the Surface Pro 5 release date, and it looks like they will soon have something to cheer about.

The Redmond-based tech giant has sent out invitations to a media event scheduled to take place in New York City later this month. Rumors are rife that the company will unveil several new devices at the Oct. 26 event including the Microsoft Surface Pro 5. The invitation teases an imminent update for Windows 10, Express reported.

Despite the lack of an official announcement, rumor mills have been swirling speculations around the next-generation Surface Pro, hinting that the device will be unveiled this year. The speculation stems from a recently surfaced photo that indicate Microsoft is currently getting ready to launch one Surface device before 2016 ends and three more devices next year.

Microsoft launched the Surface Pro 4 in Oct. 2015. Some optimistic fans believe that a refresh could be in the offing this month. This is quite possible provided Microsoft follows its release pattern.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5: Specs & Features

The Surface Pro 5 is likely to come with Intel's Kaby Lake processors.

Moreover, the successor to Surface Pro 4 is expected to come with a revamped Surface Pen with rechargeable battery that charges wireless when attached to the tablet. The current Surface Pen attaches to the tablet by a magnet and is powered by an alkaline AAAA battery.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be available in two variants including one with a 4K screen, and another with a more economical 2K display. The cheaper model is expected to come with 16GB of RAM, according to Tech Advisor.

If rumors proved to be true, the hybrid device will get rid of the USB 3.0 port in favor of a USB-C port. The Surface Pro 5 is also expected to have some camera upgrades.

The device will be up for grabs in several options including a mammoth 2TB variant. The current Surface Pro is available in 128, 256, and 512GB models and a 1TB version.
