Amidst the worldwide PC market's continuing decline, Apple is also experiencing a decline on their own. In the third quarter of 2016, the Cupertino-based tech company shipped an estimated 5 million Macs, which decreased by 13.4 percent compared to the shipments made in Q3 2015.

Due to Apple's Mac shipment decline, the market share of Apple in Q3 2016 comes in at 6.7 percent, a 7.8 percent decline from Q3 2015. The said market share percentage of the tech company for Q3 2016 secured them the position as the number five worldwide PC vendor after Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Asus, Mac Rumors reported.

The downward trend of the worldwide PC shipments seems to link to the developing markets, where users prefer to purchase portable devices rather than laptop computers or dedicated desktop.

Principal analyst at Gartner, Mikako Kitagawa, even stated that in emerging markets, the penetration of PC is low, but consumers are not eager to purchase PCs. In emerging markets, consumers primarily use smartphones or phablets for their computing needs, and these consumers don't find the need to use a PC as much as consumers in mature markets.

However, behind Apple is the Taiwanese tech giant Acer, whose figures are even more depressing at 14.1 percent lesser for the same period. The Taiwanese tech company accumulated 6.7 percent of the market on 4.6 million unit shipments, Apple Insider has learned.

Lenovo retained the top spot, which managed to boost its stake of the worldwide market to 20.9 percent, despite a 2.4 percent drop in shipment growth year over year. The Chinese multinational tech company rolled out a total of 14.4 million PCs in the third quarter.

The second spot goes to the American information tech company HP, in which, the company boosted their shipments by 2.3 percent, while Dell ranked third with a 14.7 percent share.
