In an upcoming episode of "Gotham," Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) will get to emulate Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump by using the latter's campaign slogan and changing it a bit. Penguin is going to run for mayor of Gotham City and his slogan for his campaign is, "Make Gotham Safe Again," a not too subtle reference to Trump's "Make America Great Again" tagline.
Robin Lord Taylor spoke with Blastr recently, wherein he told them that their show is moving at a parallel direction with the U.S. presidential elections. Taylor said that Penguin moved up the ladder in the underworld successfully because of his ability to manipulate people into doing his bidding.
Taylor said that Penguin has a gift for motivating people because he knows how to incite fear in them and fear is often a great factor in manipulating others. He added that Penguin's quest to hold office in the local government is similar to what's happening in the country.
According to the actor, Penguin's method of manipulating people reflects closely how a particular person is able to become the front-runner of the Republican Party. Although Taylor didn't want to mention Donald Trump's name in the interview it was clear enough that the show's producers are referring to the belligerent billionaire when they wrote Penguin's political arc angle.
From the very beginning of his presidential campaign, Donald Trump has incited not only fear but anger as well from his supporters. Although his remarks are often controversial his supporters have increased by leaps and bounds and it's all because he knows how to incite fear in others.
Penguin is set to do the same and just like Trump he'll have some help from his likeminded associates. According to International Business Times, Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) will help out Penguin in his campaign but fair methods are far from the villain's mind.
John Stephens, the co-executive producer of the show, told TV Insider that Penguin will partner up with Nygma so that they can regain control of the city once more through ill means. He added that Butch Gillian (Drew Powell) will help Penguin as well.
