Google Pixel, Pixel XL Release Date & Rumors: Google To Launch Two New Smartphones At Pixel Event? See Launch Date & Time [VIDEO]
ByLooks like a good news for those waiting with bated breath for Google's rebranded Pixel lineup as the search engine giant is all set to unveil the highly anticipated smartphones during a special event in San Francisco, which will start at 9 a.m. PST on Tuesday, October 4 2016.
Won't be able to personally attend the launch event? Fret not! Google will be streaming the event live on YouTube. The company is also expected to announce other hardwares including a new 4K ready Chromecast, and Google Home during the event. Let's take a look at all that is expected from Google's imminent Pixel event.
What Is Google Launching At The Pixel Event?
Google will be taking the wraps off a couple of brand new smartphones dubbed, Pixel and Pixel XL, originally codenamed as Sailfish and Marlin respectively.
If the ads are anything to go by, the emphasis is on 'Made by Google' with these phones. Google is getting rid of the Nexus branding, which was always in collaboration with another OEM, for instance, LG Google Nexuus or the Huawei Google Nexus 6P. Breaking the trend, this phone will be all about Google branding. Although HTC will be manufacturing the handset, almost everything from design to hardware is being decided by Google, TheIndianExpress reported.
What's So Exclusive About Google Pixel Phones And Who Is Manufacturing Them?
Aside from being "Made by Google," Pixel, Pixel XL will be premium smartphones from the search giant. With the Pixel smartphones, Google will target Apple's iPhone 7 and the phones' ads are further confirming this. Several reports indicate that Google will opt for a premium pricing with $649 as the starting price.
Google Pixel Phones Specifications
In terms of dimensions, Google Pixel will measure 143.85 mm x 65.9 mm x 7.3 mm, the large Pixel XL, on the other hand, will have dimensions 154.7 mm x 75.7 mm x 7.3 mm, according to Android Authority.
Both Pixel and Pixel XL will measure 7.3 mm at their thinnest and 8.5mm at their thickest points.
Google Pixel will sport a 5-inch display while Pixel XL will feature a mammoth 5.5-inch display. Both the smartphones will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor paired with 4GB RAM. The device will be housed in a unibody design with dual-tone metal and glass.
Will This Be A Pure Google Smartphone?
If previous leaks are anything to go by, Google Pixel will run Android Nougat 7.1. Moreover, Google has already renamed Nexus launcher as Pixel launcher. One of the most notable changes include the Google Search bar which now shows just a simple "G" logo on top.
What Else Will Google Announce At The Pixel Event?
Google could shed more light on DayDream VR Platform during the event, which will center on the hardware and there's hearsay that Google Chromecast and Google Home device will also be unveiled as well.
When Will Pixel And Pixel XL Launch Globally?
There's no word on when these smartphones will hit the store shelves in India or globally, for that matter. The last Nexus phones debuted in India soon after launch and the price started at Rs. 27,000 (about $406) for the Nexus 5X and Rs. 42,999 (about $647) for Nexus 6P.
