Sony ‘PlayStation VR’ Headset Price: Lower than HTC Vive, Oculus Rift; Coming Soon in TV, Films and Smartphones?
BySony "PlayStation VR" headset for PS4 console is slated to be released in October which is reported to be way more affordable compared to HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Sony then revealed about its plan to extend the VR content in TV and films in the coming years while engaging into smartphone-based headsets is currently under debate.
Sony's gaming division chief head told Reuters that the company is aiming towards extending VR content in non-gaming industry such as TV and films. On the other hand, Sony's chief executive in Interactive Entertainment Andrew House also revealed the on-going collaboration of Sony and 230 developers worldwide in working for over 50 titles due for released by the end of 2016. He said that these titles include landscape videos, karaoke, music and cartoons.
When asked about Sony's plan to extend "PlayStation VR" headset to smartphones, House said that they are focused in providing the consumers a great VR experience. He added that he had never seen a smartphone VR experience that has quality output. This addresses the fact that there are 65 developers who distributed 100 smartphone-based VR headsets in the market.
Sony "PlayStation VR" headset is six years in the making (since 2010) and launched as "Project Morpheus" in March 2014. The VR headset for PlayStation 4 console is slated to be released in October 13. Reuters report claimed that the device will be more affordable compared to its competitors HTC Vive and Oculus Rift that required expensive PC to run.
